Shafting & Bearings System Integration Team (sit) Lead: OHIO Replacement Program at Naval Sea Systems Command

Aby Thomas has a diverse work experience, beginning in 2000 as an Engineering Co-op at Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding. They then worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Center for Superconductivity Research in 2000-2001. Aby went on to be a Systems Engineering Assistant at Siemens Building Technologies in 2001. From 2002-2003, Aby worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Naval Business Center, where they provided support for the development of new designs and performed on-site inspections and maintenance on Navy submarines. Aby then joined Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division, where they held various roles, including Project Manager from 2003-2004 and Test Engineer from 2004-2011. In these positions, Aby led model tests, conducted maneuvering tests of autonomous submarine models, and analyzed data to present results in technical reports. Most recently, Aby worked at NAVSEA as the Shafting & Bearings System Integration Team Lead and later as Senior Assistant to the Technical Director of PMS 397 for the OHIO Replacement Program. In these roles, they coordinated R&D efforts and provided technical support for the design of the propulsion shafting system.

Aby Thomas earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland in 2001. Aby then pursued a Masters degree in Engineering and Technology Management from The George Washington University from 2004 to 2007.
