George Lang has an extensive work experience in various roles within the US Navy and educational organizations. George began their career as a Surface and Strike Warfare Officer in the US Navy, where they were responsible for the operational and administrative control of assigned surface combatants. George then served as the Executive Officer of an Aegis guided missile destroyer, overseeing the organization, administration, training, and discipline of the entire command.
Lang then moved on to the U.S. Fleet Forces Command, where they served as the Current (Deputy) Operations Officer. In this role, they had operational control of assigned forces and maintained combat readiness for deploying carrier strike groups and expeditionary strike groups.
After their time at the Fleet Forces Command, Lang served in several roles within the US Navy, including Deputy Commander/Chief of Staff for carrier strike groups and Commanding Officer of a guided missile frigate. In these positions, they were responsible for the overall management and operational readiness of their respective units.
In 2013, Lang transitioned to the U.S. Naval War College, where they served as the Vice President and Chief of Staff. George acted as the principal military adviser to the president and was responsible for the smooth operation of assigned staff and support services.
Subsequently, Lang joined the United States Naval Academy as the Deputy Superintendent and Chief of Staff, overseeing the daily operation and administration of the institution.
Their most recent position is as the Chief Executive Officer of the Naval War College Foundation, a nonprofit philanthropic education organization. In this role, they provide strategic direction and leadership, raising and administering funds for the U.S. Naval War College.
Throughout their career, Lang has demonstrated strong leadership and management skills, ensuring the readiness and effectiveness of the units and organizations they have served.
George Lang attended the State University of New York Maritime College from 1983 to 1987, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. In 1998 to 1999, they pursued a Master's Degree in Computer Resources and Information Management from Webster University. In 2008, George Lang completed JPME Phase II at the Joint Forces Staff College, National Defense University. Additionally, they completed JPME Phase I at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in 1998 to 1999.
