Syandan Chakraborty

Syandan Chakraborty has extensive experience in the scientific field, beginning with a Clinical Internship in 2003 at Pt. B.D.Sharma P.G.I.M.S. Rohtak. Syandan then pursued a Master's Program at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, where they synthesized electrosprayed, antibiotic-containing, chitosan nanospheres and generated a composite scaffold of nanofibers in hydrogel for articular cartilage tissue engineering. In 2007, they began a Doctoral Researcher position at Duke University, where they executed self-initiated research in designing expression vectors, protein engineering, cellular reprogramming, and gene editing. This resulted in five publications, seven presentations, and 12 reagent requests. In 2014, they began a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position at Columbia University in the City of New York. Syandan led a team of three graduate students in reprogramming research, co-authored seven papers, assisted in writing an NIH R21 grant proposal, and reviewed 10 journal manuscripts. Syandan also presented at two conferences and gave an invited talk at the University of Pennsylvania Stem Cell Club. In 2016, they began a position as an Investigator, Functional Genomics at GSK. Syandan conceptualized and executed a whole-genome CRISPR activation and inhibition screen in six cancer cell lines and enabled a go/no-go decision for two immuno-oncology screens. Syandan also harnessed CRISPR technologies to knockout, knock-in, knockdown and activate genes of interest. In the same year, they also began roles as an Advisor at Droice Labs and a Medical Writer at Ardent Cell Technologies. In 2021, they began a position as a Principal Scientist, Cell Engineering at Flagship Pioneering. Syandan developed platform technologies for a stealth mode startup, collaborated with cross-functional teams, mentored scientists, and engineered immune cells with chimeric antigen receptor (CAR). Syandan is currently a Principal Scientist at NAVERIS, beginning in 2022.

Syandan Chakraborty obtained a High School degree from Shishu Bihar H.S. School from 1996 to 1998. Syandan then went on to obtain a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) from Pt. B.D. Sharma P.G.I.M.S Rohtak between 1998 and 2004. Syandan then pursued a Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Biological Sciences and Bioengineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur between 2005 and 2007. Finally, Syandan Chakraborty obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University between 2007 and 2014. Additionally, Syandan Chakraborty has obtained several certifications from Coursera Course Certificates, DataCamp, and edX.
