Dr. G. Peersman received his doctorate as a physician in 1995 and as a specialist in orthopedic surgery in 2001 from the University of Antwerp.
After this training he followed an additional specialization in knee replacement surgery at the 'Hospital for Special Surgery' in New York with Prof. R. Laskin. The scientific work he performed there formed the basis of his doctoral thesis. In 2011 he became a Doctor of Medical Sciences (PhD) on the thesis "Identification of risk factors for infection and loosening of total knee replacements".
Besides his specific interests in general orthopedics and traumatology, he also has extensive experience in the field of knee replacement surgery and treatment of sports injuries of the knee. Numerous international publications and lectures both at national and international symposia are witness to this.
He is a member of the Belgian Association of Orthopedics and Traumatology (B.V.O.T) and of the Belgian Knee Society (B.K.S). He is also club doctor of RAFC Antwerp and doctor of the motocross rescue team of the VLM.
