Raj Mathai is a seasoned journalist with extensive experience at NBC Bay Area, serving as the primary anchor for the 6pm, 7pm, and 11pm news since November 1998. Mathai has covered major breaking news events as a field anchor, including the San Jose floods, North Bay Fires, Trump Inauguration, Las Vegas mass shooting, Super Bowls, and Olympics. In addition to anchoring, Mathai is a moderator for the Commonwealth Club World Affairs, conducting interviews with high-profile newsmakers for live audiences, podcasts, and radio. Mathai also contributes as a guest lecturer at Stanford University Graduate School of Business, partnering with Professor George Foster for a course on "Crisis Communication." Earlier experience includes serving as a media relations assistant for the San Diego Chargers and the NFL Super Bowl staff from September 1990 to February 1995. Mathai holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Political Science from San Diego State University.
