Carles graduated in Biomedical Sciences at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in 2016. After obtaining his MSc in Bioinformatics in the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), he joined Prof. Guallar’s group in the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) where he completed his PhD. During this period, he developed new methodologies as well as collaborated in multiple academic and industrial drug discovery projects.
His research has been focused on designing a new dynamic fragment growing tool, called FragPELE, that has been extensively validated and used in real drug discovery projects. Among other studies, he also cooperated in other drug discovery projects using state-of-the-art molecular modeling techniques and designing innovative analysis pipelines based on machine learning. Additionally, he helped in enzyme engineering studies and repurposing screening to fight against SARS-Cov2, among others. During his career, he published several articles in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling (JCIM) and Frontiers in Pharmacology. Now, Carles is working at NBD as a Project Manager.
