NBIS – National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden
Bengt Persson is a prominent figure in bioinformatics, currently serving as the ELIXIR-SE Head of Node since December 2013 and as a Professor of Bioinformatics at Science for Life Laboratory, Uppsala University, and Karolinska Institutet since March 2013. Their extensive experience includes directing the National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden (NBIS) from January 2008 and previously leading the National Supercomputer Centre from January 2008 to June 2012. Bengt held the position of Professor of Bioinformatics at Linkoping University and Karolinska Institutet from June 2002 to March 2013 and was an Associate Professor at Karolinska Institutet from 1999 to 2002. Educationally, Bengt obtained a medical degree (Läkarexamen) from Karolinska Institutet between 1981 and 1986 and completed a studentexamen at Blackebergs Gymnasium from 1977 to 1980.

NBIS is a distributed national bioinformatics infrastructure, supporting life sciences in Sweden. NBIS will enable world-class life science by providing expert knowledge, creative data integration, advanced training, efficient data publication and access to high-performance data and analysis methods. NBIS will continue coordinating bioinformatics support within Sweden and make bioinformatics easily accessible for life science researchers.
