Jonathan Kappler

Jonathan Kappler currently serves as the Deputy Secretary for External Affairs and Chief of Staff at the NC Department of Health and Human Services, providing organizational leadership and overseeing various offices to implement strategic initiatives, including a $4 billion medical debt relief program. Prior to this role, Jonathan held the position of Executive Director at the North Carolina FreeEnterprise Foundation, where responsibilities included managing operations, conducting political research, and advising on state politics. Jonathan's experience also encompasses representation and advocacy for the University of North Carolina system, leadership roles in alumni associations, and various research and policy positions focusing on federal workforce and political analysis. Jonathan holds a BS and BA in Political Science and Spanish from Appalachian State University and a Master of Public Policy from American University.
