Roger is the former President and CEO of TIAA, a Fortune 100 financial services organization and the leading provider of retirement services in the academic, research, medical and cultural fields.
Currently serving as the Steven A. Tananbaum Distinguished Fellow for International Economics at the Council on Foreign Relations, Roger is also a member of a number of boards, including Alphabet, the Institute for Advanced Study, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Corning, International Flavors and Fragrances, Notarize, Klarna, and Blend. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and the American Philosophical Society and a member of the Economic Club of New York and the Group of Thirty.
As the former vice chairman of the Board of Governors of the U.S. Federal Reserve System, representing the Fed on several international policy groups and serving on key Federal Reserve System committees, including Payment System Oversight, Reserve Bank Operations and Supervision and Regulation, Roger led the Fed's initial response to the terrorist attacks on 9/11, keeping the U.S. financial system functioning and reassuring the global financial community that the U.S. economy would remain strong.
Prior to joining TIAA, he led financial services for Swiss Re. From 1984 to 1997, he served as partner at McKinsey & Company and from 1981 to 1984 as an attorney at the New York City office of Davis Polk & Wardwell.
