Alejandra Postlethwaite, MD has a diverse work experience in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry. Currently, they hold the position of President at the California Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Prior to this role, they served as the Behavioral Health Services Associate Medical Director at Neighborhood Healthcare and also worked as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Clinical Team Leader at the same organization. Prior to that, they worked as a Staff Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Radys Children's Hospital. Alejandra also has teaching experience as a Health Sciences, Assistant Clinical Professor at UC San Diego Health, where they facilitated groups of first-year medical students and served as assigned faculty for individual medical students' graduation projects. Alejandra has also held leadership positions in professional organizations, including serving as President of the San Diego Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Alejandra has further experience as the Director of Behavioral Health Services at La Maestra Community Health Centers and as the Co-Training Director of the UCSD Community Psychiatry Fellowship Program. Additionally, they have worked in a private practice as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and as a Staff Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Imperial Valley County Behavioral Health Services.
Dr. Alejandra Postlethwaite completed their medical education at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, where they earned their Medical Doctor degree from 1993 to 1999. Alejandra then pursued further specialization in psychiatry, completing a three-year Psychiatry Residency program at Harvard Medical School from 2002 to 2005. Additionally, in 2003 and 2004, they obtained a degree in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute.
In 2005, Dr. Postlethwaite joined UC San Diego as a Chief Resident in the Psychiatry Residency Program for one year. Following this, they continued their training at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA from 2006 to 2008, where they completed a Fellowship as Chief Fellow in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Program.
Through their education and specialized training, Dr. Alejandra Postlethwaite has acquired the skills and knowledge necessary to become a competent and qualified medical professional in the field of psychiatry, with a particular focus on child and adolescent psychiatry.
