Richard Friesner is an accomplished environmental professional with extensive experience in water quality and environmental science. Currently serving as the Division Director for Water Quality Programs at NEIWPCC since 2016, Richard facilitates collaboration among water quality professionals across the Northeast. Additionally, Richard holds a part-time role as Program Director for the Washington Youth Summit on the Environment at George Mason University, having initially held the position full-time from 2010 to 2016. Prior roles include Department Manager and Environmental Scientist at Professional Service Industries, Inc., and a Hydrologic Technician at the USGS. Richard's educational background includes a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Public Policy, alongside multiple degrees from George Mason University and the University of Kansas.

NEIWPCC

NEIWPCC [NŪ-Ē-PĬK] is a regional commission that helps the states of the Northeast preserve and advance water quality. We engage and convene water quality professionals and other interested parties from New England and New York to collaborate on water, wastewater, and environmental science challenges across shared regions, ecosystems, and areas of expertise. We develop, coordinate, and conduct training courses for wastewater and other water quality professionals regionally and nationwide. We conduct research into water-related topics, monitor environmental factors, and fund such work by others. We also implement and fund environmental restoration and other on-the-ground projects. We fund and/or staff programs that engage the public through events, exhibits, web and print publications, and other outreach activities. We actively represent the interests of member states at meetings with federal and state officials and in regional and national water and wastewater associations.
