Dr. Andrew Shamu has extensive work experience in the field of research and development. Dr. Andrew is currently serving as the Head of Research and Development at NeoCarbon since April 2022. Prior to this, they worked as a Process and Permit Engineer at Bilfinger from July 2021 to April 2022, where they provided advice and ensured compliance in various engineering disciplines.
Before joining Bilfinger, Dr. Shamu was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Twente. Dr. Andrew worked on two separate projects during their tenure. The first project focused on developing a process for producing nitrate fertilizer through ammonia conversion, with a specific emphasis on investigating the ozone-based conversion of ammonia to ammonium nitrate. The second project involved analyzing scale formation on water desalination membranes to mitigate salt deposit issues.
From 2014 to 2019, Dr. Shamu worked at Wetsus, European Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Water Technology, as a PhD Candidate. Dr. Andrew'sresearch project involved the development of a novel membrane-based process for dehydrating supercritical CO2, primarily used as a drying agent in the food industry. Dr. Andrew also contributed to the design of experimental apparatus, conducted gas and water vapor permeation experiments, and performed technical-economic analysis for an industrial-scale process.
Dr. Shamu's academic journey began with a Master's thesis at Universiteit Twente in 2014. The thesis focused on developing a model to predict fouling on water-filtration membranes under different process conditions and feed characteristics. Prior to this, they completed a Bachelor's thesis at BASF in 2012, where they audited the operations and auxiliary materials consumption of an automotive coating manufacturing plant to identify cost-saving potentials.
Dr. Andrew Shamu has an extensive education history in the field of chemical process technology. Dr. Andrew obtained a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD from Eindhoven University of Technology, where they studied from 2016 to 2019. Prior to that, they pursued another Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in the same field at University of Twente from 2014 to 2016. Dr. Andrew also holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in process engineering from FH Münster, which they completed between 2012 and 2014. Dr. Andrew'searlier educational background includes a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in chemical engineering from FH Münster (2009-2012). Before entering higher education, Dr. Shamu completed a vocational training as a chemical-technical assistant at Hans-Böckler-Berufskolleg Münster (2005-2008). In addition to their academic achievements, they have obtained the certification of Facilitator Level 2 from the Association of Facilitators in November 2020.
