Dr Iain Williams

Director, Strategic Partnerships at NERC: Natural Environment Research Council

Dr. Iain Williams has extensive work experience in various scientific and policy roles. Dr Iain started their career at Imperial College London as a Post-Doctoral Researcher. Dr Iain then joined Defra, where they held multiple positions such as Research Program Manager in Agri-environment and Horticulture, as well as Head of Science Quality. Following that, Dr. Williams worked at the UK Home Office, first as the Head of Science Secretariat and later as the Counsellor for Science and Technology at the British Embassy in Washington. Dr Iain then returned to Defra as the Deputy Chief Scientific Adviser until 2020. Currently, Dr. Williams is the Director of Strategic Partnerships at the Natural Environment Research Council. Prior to these roles, they also worked as a Fellow at the Centre for Science and Policy at the University of Cambridge.

Dr Iain Williams pursued their education with a strong focus on science-related subjects. From 1991 to 1994, they attended the University of Reading, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Botany and Zoology. Subsequently, they furthered their academic career at the University of East Anglia from 1994 to 1997, where they acquired a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Entomology and Epidemiology.
