Michael W. Hawkins is the founder and CEO of Netizen Corporation, which provides specialized cyber security solutions for defense, civilian government, and commercial customers. Michael W. is also an adjunct professor and board member at Lehigh Carbon Community College. Hawkins previously served as a program manager and subject matter expert at Engineering Services Network, leading distributed teams for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Before that, they served as a project manager and acting deputy Chief Information Officer at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and was an IT systems administrator, senior software developer, and information security officer at New Hope Community Inc. Hawkins began their career in the United States Army, serving as a staff sergeant, Information Systems Security Officer, military police officer, and investigator across several locations worldwide.
Michael W. Hawkins earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with a minor in Business Administration from the University of Maryland University College between 2007 and 2011. Michael W. has a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification from (ISC)² that they obtained in October 2018. In addition, they have a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute that they obtained in July 2013. Michael W. also received a Program and Project Management (DAWIA Level II) certification from the Federal Acquisition Institute (FAI) in June 2010 and an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) certification from the United States Department of Defense in March 2002.
