Santiago Olivera

Principal Computer Intelligence Engineer at Neurala

Santiago Olivera has over 15 years of work experience. Santiago started their career in 2004 as a Research Assistant at Boston University, where they applied expert level knowledge on various biological mechanisms in the human visual system to create innovative visual processing techniques and to develop new pattern recognition and machine learning algorithms. In 2010, they joined Migma Systems, Inc. as a Research Engineer and later became a Senior Research Engineer. In this role, they took a lead role and became the main point of contact for technical aspects in projects between Migma and some of its DoD collaborators. Santiago also started focusing on hardware optimization for real-time embedded systems aiming to reduce costs and improve power efficiency in some of their products. In 2017, they joined Neurala as a Principal Computer Intelligence Engineer and later became the Lead Computer Intelligence Engineer. In this role, they supported the development and maintenance of Neurala's AI SDK, with particular emphasis on identifying, evaluating, and integrating state of the art technologies and techniques that enhanced capabilities on Neurala's AI services as well as supporting specific client requirements.

Santiago Olivera received their B.Eng. in Electronics Engineering from Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas between 1992 and 1999. Santiago then went on to earn their MSc in Electrical Engineering from Universidad de Los Andes between 2000 and 2003. Finally, they completed their Ph.D. in Computational Neuroscience from Boston University between 2004 and 2010.
