Phuong Nguyen

Senior Scientist at Neurogene

Phuong Nguyen has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. They started their career as a Tutor at Montgomery Middle School in 2008. They then worked as a Research Assistant at Tezcan's BioInorganic Lab where they collaborated on publishing three research papers and mastered various biochemistry techniques. In 2011, Phuong worked as a Student Consultant at the Joint BioEnergy Institute, conducting market research. They also served as a Graduate Student Instructor at the University of California, where they trained and managed students in organic chemistry laboratory techniques. Phuong then interned as a Commercialization Intern at Bayer HealthCare.

In 2012, Phuong joined Ajinomoto Althea, Inc., initially as a Manufacturing Assistant and then as a Senior Manufacturing Assistant. They completed multiple deviation reports and were experienced with quality systems such as MasterControl and QAD. In 2015, Phuong moved to La Jolla Biologics as a Senior Research Associate, leading projects, collaborating with team members on process development, and investigating product parameter deviations.

From 2017 to 2021, Phuong worked at Lonza, first as a Cell Therapy Manufacturing role for a year, and then as a Process Development Scientist for gene therapy products. In this role, they worked on purification process development for various viruses and transferred processes from Phase I to cGMP manufacturing. Their responsibilities involved developing control strategies and facilitating lot release.

Most recently, Phuong joined Neurogene Inc. in 2021 as a Senior Scientist.

Phuong Nguyen's education history includes a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, obtained from 2010 to 2011. Before that, Phuong completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from UC San Diego, which was completed from 2006 to 2010. Additionally, Phuong obtained a certificate in the Industrial Biotechnology Immersion Program (IBIP) from the BIOCOM Institute in 2011. In terms of additional certifications, Phuong received the SAS Programming 1: Essentials certification from SAS in January 2020.
