Sonja Kriks has worked in the scientific field since 2007 when they began as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. During their time there, they developed a differentiation protocol for the directed differentiation of pluripotent stem cells into a dopaminergic cell lineage. Her main goal was to obtain an unlimited source of fully specified midbrain dopamine neurons suitable for pre-clinical applications of Parkinson's disease. In 2015, they began working as a Scientist at Neurona Therapeutics, where they have remained in the same role since.
Sonja Kriks obtained a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Developmental Neuroscience from The Salk Institute for Biological Studies from 2002 to 2007. Prior to that, they earned a Diplom Biologe (Bachelor of Science) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from The University of Göttingen from 1998 to 2002.
