Michael Lapides

Director of Digital Engagement at New Bedford Whaling Museum

Michael Lapides has held significant roles at the New Bedford Whaling Museum since January 2002, currently serving as the Director of Digital Engagement since May 2021. Prior to this position, Michael was the Curator of Photography and Director of Digital Engagement and also worked as a Photo Archivist and Manager of Photographic Services. Earlier in their career, from January 1991 to January 2002, Michael was the Studio Manager, Printer, and Assistant at Steve Rosenthal Architectural Photography. Michael holds a BA in Studio Art with a focus on Photography from Brown University, obtained between 1977 and 1991, and a Diploma in Fine Art specializing in Photography from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, completed from 1979 to 1982.
