William Van Hertsen

Founder & CEO at New Debt Exchange

William Van Hertsen is the Founder and CEO of New Debt Exchange, a position they have held since June of 2018. Prior to their current role, William spent six years as a Trading Vice President at Goldman Sachs, where they were responsible for structured finance investing and lending, as well as principal funding and investment. William began their career in the financial sector as a Trading Summer Analyst at Credit Suisse in 2011.

Throughout their career, William has executed debt financing transactions in the US, Europe, and Japan, working with a variety of clients including pensions, insurance companies, banks, private banks, asset managers, and hedge funds. William has also been instrumental in the structuring and underwriting of two structured debt projects: a healthcare CLO and a structured covered bond. In 2017, William founded a new business line lending to originators subject to risk retention; within 9 months, they had closed more than $1 billion in financing facilities.

William has significant credit market expertise and extensive knowledge of asset-backed securities, debt financing, and derivative contracts. William is also well-versed in debt market infrastructure. In addition to their professional accomplishments, William is also known for their commitment to mentoring and training new traders.

William Van Hertsen is a financial engineer who studied mathematics, computer programming, and economics at Université Paris Dauphine - PSL. William holds a Master's degree from that school in financial engineering.
