Lyana G. Hunter

Lyana Hunter is an accomplished legal professional with extensive experience in public defense and education. Currently serving as an Assistant Public Defender at the Office of the Public Defender in New Hanover County since July 2010, Lyana specializes in representing parents in abuse, neglect, and dependency cases, as well as juveniles in delinquency matters. In addition, Lyana is a dedicated Board Member of the Board of Elections, overseeing election administration in the county. Previous roles include Adjunct Instructor at Cape Fear Community College, Program Chair for Paralegal and Criminal Justice Programs at Miller-Motte College, and Attorney at the Law Offices of Lyana G. Palmer, PLLC. Lyana's experience also includes positions as an Attorney Advisor for the District of Columbia Public Schools, Staff Attorney for Legal Aid Bureau, and internships at the Kings County District Attorney's Office and Legal Aid of Chicago. Lyana earned a Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Human Services from Villanova University.
