Fortunate Higgins has a diverse work experience in the social services field. Fortunate started their career as a Direct Support Professional at Greystone Programs Inc from August 2011 to October 2013. Fortunate then worked as a Residential Program Specialist at Anderson Center for Autism from November 2008 to June 2018. Following this, they were a Victim Advocate at Family Services from May 2018 to July 2019, providing casework services to clients in need. Fortunate then served as a Care Manager at LIFEPlanCCONY from July 2019 to October 2021, assisting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in creating personalized life plans. Fortunate then joined Advocate Homecare Inc. as a Service Coordinator from October 2021 to April 2022, where they supported seniors and individuals with disabilities. Currently, Fortunate is the Director of Program Services at New Horizons Resources, Inc. where they oversee various program supports provided by the organization.
Fortunate Higgins completed a Bachelor's degree in Industrial and Fine Arts from Makerere University between the years 2003 and 2006. Later, between 2012 and 2016, they obtained a Master's degree in Professional Studies in Humanistic and Multicultural Education from SUNY New Paltz.
