Robert C. Cohen

Robert Cohen, Chair of the NJIT Board of Trustees, serves as president, digital robotics, and enabling technology at Stryker Corporation, a leading medical technology company. Stryker offers innovative products and services that help improve patient and hospital outcomes. Mr. Cohen previously served as vice president and chief technology officer for joint replacement. Prior to rejoining Stryker in 2013, he was senior vice president, clinical and market development for MAKO Surgical Corp., an orthopedic robotics company that was acquired by Stryker. He served as chief technology officer and senior vice president of research and development for Pipeline Biomedical, a company that he founded and acquired by MAKO in 2013. He also served as vice president of product development for Implex Corp., a developer of advanced joint replacement and spinal implants that was acquired by Zimmer Holdings, and as general manager, New Jersey engineering and manufacturing operations for Zimmer Holdings. From 1984 to 1992, he held engineering positions at Stryker’s joint replacement division, including director of product development. He was inducted as a Fellow to the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. Mr. Cohen received the following degrees from NJIT: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1983, M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1984, and M.S. Engineering Management in 1987. He is a member of the Newark College of Engineering Board of Visitors and the New Jersey Innovation Institute Board of Directors. He is a recipient of the 2012 Alumni Achievement Award.
