Brett Barnes

Brett Barnes is an accomplished legal professional currently serving as a Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor for the New Mexico Administrative Office of the District Attorneys since September 2024 and as a Judge Advocate in the United States Army Reserve since January 2024. With substantial experience in traffic safety law, Brett previously held the position of Assistant Attorney General at the New Mexico Department of Justice from December 2019 to September 2024, where notable achievements included receiving the Outstanding Criminal Justice Prosecutor award from Mother's Against Drunk Driving in 2021. Additional experience encompasses roles as Assistant District Attorney in both the First and Fifth Judicial District Attorney's Offices, where Brett conducted numerous jury trials and received the Junior Prosecutor of the Year award in 2017. Brett's early career features legal internships at the Iredell County District Attorney's Office and the Denver District Attorney's Office, alongside various law clerk positions. Educational credentials include a Juris Doctor from Charlotte School of Law and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Philosophy from Aquinas College.
