Cal Hastings has a diverse work experience in the education sector. Cal currently serves as the Chief Schools Officer at NYC Outward Bound Schools and has been in this role since January 2017. Prior to this, they worked as the Senior Director for Adolescent Literacy at Generation Ready from June 2014 to December 2016. From November 2011 to May 2014, they were the Senior Director for Middle School Quality at the NYC Department of Education.
Before that, Cal Hastings held the position of Senior Director School Support and New School Development at FHI 360 from July 2008 to November 2011. Cal managed FHI 360's School Network and directed the Middle School Leadership Project funded by US ED.
Cal Hastings also worked at AED Middle Start National Center as an Associate Director from January 2007 to June 2008 and as an Outreach Director from December 2005 to December 2007.
Prior to joining AED Middle Start National Center, they were the Senior Director of Programs at MOUSE, Inc from April 1999 to November 2005. Before that, they served as the Program Director at MOUSE from April 1999 to September 2002.
Cal Hastings began their career as the Dean of Middle School at The Dwight School in July 1995 and held this position until June 1998. As the Dean of Middle School, they were responsible for the academic and social achievement of students in grades 5-8, managed middle school curriculum development, and supervised middle school faculty.
Cal Hastings completed their Bachelor of Arts (A.B.) degree in Political Science and Government from Bowdoin College between the years 1984 and 1988. Subsequently, they pursued their Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Instruction from Teachers College, Columbia University, during the period of 1992 to 1995.
