Richard Lovatt has a strong work history in finance and accounting, starting with their role as an Auditor at Baker Tilly from 1997 to 2000. Richard then worked at PwC as a Manager, overseeing financial audits for a wide range of clients until 2003. From 2003 to 2006, Lovatt served as the Director of Finance for RTS, a worldwide sales group, where they also sat on the Board of Directors and participated in strategic decision making. In 2006, they joined SourceMedia as the Director of Finance for a $60M revenue publishing group. Lovatt's most recent position is with NYC & Company, where they joined in 2007 as the SVP of Finance before being promoted to CFO in 2018. In this role, they manage the day-to-day financial operations and collaborates with all departments to set budgets.

Richard Lovatt completed their education with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Nottingham, which they pursued from 1993 to 1996. After that, they went on to study Accountancy, Audit & Financial Management at the Institute of Chartered Accounts of England and Wales (ICAEW), where they obtained the ACA (Associate Chartered Accountant) certification in September 2000.
