Matthew Tommasini

Director, Very Young Composers & Community Programs at New York Philharmonic

Matthew Tommasini has had a diverse and successful career in the music industry. Matthew is currently the Director of Very Young Composers & Community Programs at the New York Philharmonic since 2023.

In 2003, Matthew founded Matalex Press, where they composed and published award-winning musical works and collaborated with renowned institutions and artists.

From 2019 to 2023, they worked at The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, initially as the Director of Education and Community Engagement, and later as the Director of Education. In these roles, they spearheaded various education and community engagement initiatives, launched the Young Musicians Innovation Challenge, and streamlined workflows and budgeting processes.

Matthew Tommasini earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Composition from UCLA, where they studied from 1996 to 2000. Following that, they pursued a Master of Arts degree in Music Composition from the University of Michigan from 2000 to 2002. Finally, they completed their education with a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Music Composition from the University of Michigan, studying from 2002 to 2005.
