Eric Brettschneider is a prominent figure in the fields of governance, social work, and community empowerment, currently serving as a Senior Fellow at the CUNY Institute for State & Local Governance since July 2021. Eric has held several leadership positions, including President of New Yorkers For Children from June 2013 to 2017 and First Deputy Commissioner at the NYC Administration for Children's Services from September 2014 to July 2021. With an extensive academic background, Eric has been an Adjunct Assistant Professor at New York University since September 1989, focusing on community empowerment within the social work and policy disciplines. Eric's career also includes significant contributions to various organizations, such as serving as Chief of Staff for the NYS Office of Children and Family Services and holding the role of President at the Viola W. Bernard Foundation, where Eric focused on mental health and child welfare. Eric is an alumnus of the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, The New School, and Colgate University, demonstrating a strong foundation in law and psychology.
