Mathew Williams

Mathew Williams is an accomplished defense professional currently serving as the Assistant Chief of Defence (Capability) at the New Zealand Defence Force since December 2019, where responsibility encompasses enhancing the capability lifecycle for military personnel. Previously, Mathew held key leadership roles, including Maritime Component Commander, Deputy Chief of Navy, and Director of the NZDF Special Inquiry Office, demonstrating expertise in operational planning, strategic governance, and international military relations. Mathew is a graduate with advanced degrees in International Security and Strategy, Public Management, and Māori Knowledge, complemented by leadership training through the Institute of Directors in New Zealand. With extensive experience ranging from commanding naval operations to strategic engagement, Mathew has consistently contributed to the New Zealand Defence Force's mission and international cooperation.
