Nelson Aluya has been working in the medical field since 2002. Nelson began their career as a Research Assistant at Renal Transplant Units Barnabas Medical Center. In 2008, they became an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at Rutgers University, where they ran a 16 residents outpatient Medicine/Pediatrics clinic, prepared and coordinated out-patient didactics for the residents, and moderated Medicine-Pediatrics Grand Round presentations. In 2009, they became the Medical Director at Sinai Post-Acute, Nursing & Rehab Center, where they were responsible for assessing and resolving the patient medical needs for a 400 bed subacute and long term facility. In 2015, they became a Medical Officer at Caduceus- Center for Disease Control and Prevention, where they conducted tertiary screening for individuals who had traveled to designated Ebola risk zones, coordinated with CDC Atlanta for Ebola consultancy, risk stratification, and disposition for at risks passengers from Ebola-infected countries, and liaised with the individual the State health departments of the risk and disposition of travelers from Ebola risk zones according to individual State Health department criteria. In 2019, they began working as an Attending Physician at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Most recently, in 2022, they became the Chief Medical Officer at NEWARK COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS, INC.

Nelson Aluya received their MBBS in Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University in 1998.
