Leilani Downer is an experienced professional in communication, writing, and education with a focus on creative content development. Serving as an Adjunct Professor at Asbury University since July 2018, Leilani teaches "Half Hour Comedy Writing" for the MFA and MA Programs. Additionally, Leilani has been with New Horizons since October 2012, where responsibilities include creating and producing a variety of written and visual materials. With a longstanding affiliation with the Writers Guild of America West since 1992, Leilani has extensive experience in writing and producing for film and television. Previously, Leilani held the position of Creative Director and Head Writer at The Slate from January 2015 to August 2022, focusing on content creation and talent development. As an Artist in Residence at the California Institute of the Arts in early 2016, Leilani consulted on filmmaking projects. A brief tenure as a writer for Fandango's "Summer of Action" series in mid-2013 showcases additional expertise. Leilani holds a B.A. in Communications from UCLA.
