Stephanie Vatz has a diverse work experience history. Stephanie started their career as a News Editor at New University Newspaper in 2009 and later became a News Intern at The Orange County Register in 2010. In 2010, they also worked as a SecondAct Intern in an entrepreneurial role. Stephanie then worked as a Freelance Researcher for Visual.ly from 2012 to 2013. In 2012, they joined KRCR ABC 7 as a Web Manager, where they managed online content, social media accounts, and mobile apps. Stephanie also worked on special projects and gained skills in producing and video editing. Stephanie's freelance work continued as they became a Freelance Digital Content Creator for KQED from April to July 2013. Their extensive experience in the media industry led their to their most recent role at Newsela. Stephanie started at Newsela in 2013 as an Editorial Director, overseeing a team of writers, editors, illustrators, photo editors, and video editors. Stephanie managed a team of freelancers and led the curation and editing of nonfiction and fiction content. Currently, Stephanie holds the position of Vice President, Content Production at Newsela, where they lead a cross-functional team in creating engaging and accessible classroom content. Stephanie collaborates with technology partners to reach teachers and students across the United States and beyond.

Stephanie Vatz obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literary Journalism and French from UC Irvine in 2011. In 2012, they completed their Master of Science degree in Magazine Writing from Columbia University - Graduate School of Journalism. Prior to their university education, Stephanie attended Granite Bay High School.
