Dayan Candappa

Dayan Candappa is the current Chief Strategy Officer at Newsweek. Prior to their current position, Candappa served as the Regional Editor for the Americas and Deputy Managing Editor at Reuters from April 2008 to May 2016. In this role, they managed a team of 500 journalists producing news across Reuters' consumer and professional platforms from Toronto to Buenos Aires. Candappa was able to successfully rebuild the management team, overhaul the editing structure, and bring in new talent - making Reuters more competitive in the region, especially in the United States.

Under Candappa's leadership, the team was able to make a success of a new digital video product and carved out Reuters' first social media reporting unit. Additionally, two pilots using news to drive traffic from free consumer platforms to subscription-only legal and IP content got off to very strong starts.

Before their time at Reuters, Candappa served as the Chief Financial Correspondent in the Gulf for Reuters from September 2000 to April 2008. Prior to that, they worked as an attorney at law from December 1997 to August 2000.
