Dr. Ortega began their career as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tulane Medical Center, where they worked in the Section of Clinical Immunology and Allergy, supporting research activities in asthma, allergy, and environmental exposures from 1995 to 1997.

Hector Ortega, MD, ScD, has an extensive education history spanning from 1979 to 1996. Hector began their education at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México, where they earned a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in 1985 with a specialization in Medicine. Following this, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree at the same university from 1986 to 1988.
