Controller & Chief Accounting Officer at NextEra Energy Partners

James May is controller and chief accounting officer of NextEra Energy Partners, LP (NYSE: NEP) a growth-oriented limited partnership formed by NextEra Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NEE). NextEra Energy Partners acquires, manages and owns contracted clean energy projects with stable, long-term cash flows.

Mr. May is also vice president, controller and chief accounting officer for NextEra Energy. In this role, he is responsible for accounting, financial reporting and internal control policies and matters for NextEra Energy and its principal subsidiaries, NextEra Energy Resources and Florida Power & Light Company.

Mr. May joined NextEra Energy in 2013 and he has held various finance and accounting roles. He previously served as the corporate controller for NextEra Energy Resources, LLC from April 2015 until March 2019.

Prior to joining the company, Mr. May worked at Deloitte & Touche LLP as a senior manager providing advisory and audit services to the energy industry for more than 12 years. During that time, he primarily served the energy industry in multiple sectors specializing in energy transacting, merger integration, initial public offerings, IFRS conversions, spin-offs and was one of the company’s specialists in alternative energy matters.

Mr. May also spent two years in Deloitte & Touche’s national office assisting the firm’s leaders establishing accounting guidance, coordinating various standard setting efforts, authoring publications, and communicating new and proposed standards to Deloitte’s clients and engagement teams.

Mr. May received his Bachelor and Master of Accounting from the University of Florida and is a Certified Public Accountant in Florida. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
