Ruben Gavilan has extensive experience in the IT security industry. Ruben began their career in 2000 as a Cryptologist - Defensive Cyber Operations Specialist for the US Navy. In 2005, they were promoted to Lead Penetration Tester for the National Geo-Spatial Intelligence Agency. In 2006, they moved to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as a Lead Penetration Tester. In 2007, they joined the Defense Intelligence Agency as a Lead Unclassified Networks Threat Analyst. That same year, they were also appointed as the Security Operations Center Manager for the United States Senate. In 2010, they began working for BAE Systems as a Lead Threat Hunter - SOC Management Consultant. In 2011, they joined Aquila ITC as a Principal Security Consultant and SOC SME, ArcSight SME. In 2010, they founded NexThreat, where they served as CEO until 2020. In this role, they generated new business and sales in excess of 14m in 2019. Ruben also directed all operations, client interaction, and projects for a national IT security consulting business. Ruben led teams of up to 10 consultants on SIEM selection engagements for Visa, Morgan Stanley, eBay, and PayPal, saving each company up to $4MM per selection. Ruben was also retained by eBay to serve as a security analytics and pattern recognition expert. Ruben used Qradar to generate correlations and analytical patterns in Visa’s log data, saving the client more than $900,000 in labor costs. In 2020, they joined AFCEA International as a Small Business Committee Member.
Ruben Gavilan attended Thomas Edison State University from 2013 to 2015, studying Computer Science.
