Judith MacKay

Director Of Communications, Engagement And Public Affairs at NHS Lothian

Judith Mackay has a diverse work experience spanning from 1986 to present. Judith started as an English Language Assistant at Lycée Hector Berlioz in 1986 and later became a University Lecturer at Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour in 1989.

In 1991, Judith joined BBC World Service as a Researcher and Radio Producer, where they were also a part of the launch team for "The World," a successful co-production with WGBH Boston and Public Radio International. Judith eventually became a Senior Broadcast Journalist in political programs.

From 1995 to 1998, Judith worked as a Senior Broadcast Journalist and later as a Producer Director at BBC News. Judith then moved to Screaming Productions for BBC 2, where they served as a Producer Director for a brief period in 1998.

In 1999, they joined BBC News again as the Editor of Good Morning Scotland, a role they held for five years. During this time, Judith led a team of 30+ and achieved record-high listening figures and audience satisfaction ratings.

At the BBC, Judith also took on strategic and management roles. From 2005 to 2007, they were a Workstream Lead for the BBC Scotland's Pacific Quay Project, responsible for digital transformation and system integration. Judith later became the Editor of Strategy and Development for BBC Scotland News, leading a team of 250 journalists and support staff and developing new program strands and online services.

In 2012, Judith founded Veeemotion, a digital start-up, where they served as the Co-Founder and Communications and Content Director. Judith was responsible for various tasks including communications, content strategy, social media strategy, and community engagement.

From 2016 to 2018, Judith worked at NHS Fife as the Head of Communications, overseeing internal and external communications, media relations, and public affairs.

Most recently, Judith has been serving as the Director of Communications, Engagement, and Public Affairs at NHS Lothian since 2018. In this role, they support the transition of healthcare services from acute hospitals to community settings and helps people understand the implications of these changes.

Judith Mackay holds a Master of Arts (MA) Hons degree in English/French from the University of Aberdeen.
