Ben Benfold

Ben Benfold is an accomplished software engineer and technical leader with extensive experience in computer vision and augmented reality. Currently serving as a Staff Research Software Engineer and Tech Lead at Niantic, Inc., since March 2020, Ben is advancing the development of an ambitious AR mapping system. Previous roles include Principal Engineer at 6D.ai, where optimized algorithms for mobile device tracking were designed, and Technical Consultant at Cubica Technology Ltd, contributing to numerous projects in tracking and data fusion. Ben has developed algorithms for security applications at VCA Technology, co-founded Eyenapse Ltd to create a novel Android camera application, and conducted research as a DPhil student at the University of Oxford. Ben holds a DPhil in Computer Vision from the University of Oxford and a BA/MA in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge.
