Heikki Korpunen

Research Scientist, Forest Engineering at NIBIO

Heikki Korpunen has extensive work experience in the field of forest engineering and wood properties. Heikki currently holds the position of Research Scientist at the NIBIO Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research, where they began working in June 2021. Prior to this, they worked as a Researcher at the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) from March 2016 to June 2021. During this time, their research focused on the properties of Scots pine and Norway spruce wood in relation to tree harvesting and sawmilling. Heikki also conducted analysis on material collected from forest machinery and studied a novel timber pricing method.

Before joining Luke, Heikki worked at the Finnish Forest Research Institute, where they held various roles. From January 2008 to December 2013, they worked as a researcher, and from August 2006 to December 2007, they served as a project manager.

Heikki Korpunen completed their education in the field of wood technology and forest engineering. From the year 2000 to 2006, they attended Joensuun yliopisto, where they earned their Master of Science degree in Agriculture and Forestry. Later, they pursued further education at the University of Helsinki from 2009 to 2015, where they obtained a Doctor of Science degree in Agriculture and Forestry with a specialization in wood technology.
