María López Maestro is a neonatologist and a NIDCAP Trainer at the 12 de Octubre NIDCAP Training Center, based at the 12 de Octubre Hospital in Madrid, Spain. Dr. López Maestro works in the Newborn Intensive Care Nursery at the 12 de Octubre Hospital assisting babies and their families. She also offers consultations at the follow-up clinic. She has taught at the Early Intervention Care Master’s Degree program since 2011. She is a member of the Developmental Care Spanish Society of Neonatology Commission focused on improving parents´ presence and effect in the care process, a model that is recommended by and in compliance with the European Standards of Care for Newborn Health. Dr. López Maestro has published numerous research papers on the state of developmental care in Spain.
