Niketan started its journey on August 6, 1998 and is devoted to the care for children with an intellectual or complex handicap in the rural areas of Bangladesh. Niketan works closely together with a Bengal partner organization: 'Disabled Rehabilitation and Research Organization' (DRRA) from Dhaka. Niketan and DRRA share a common vision: children and adolescents with a disability have a right to attention, loving care and dedication, just as any other child all over the world. All children have an inherent right at a dignified life. Disabled children have a right to develop themselves at an intellectual, social, emotional and physical level. They too have a right to claim their full place in society. Niketan give a future to children who are born without one. Learning to become selfreliant, by receiving education and be prepared for a job is vital. Niketan focus on what the children’s can, rather than on what they can’t.
