Jesse Grimes-York

Sr Mechanical Engineer at Nimble AI

Jesse Grimes-York has a diverse and extensive work experience in robotics engineering and design. Starting in 2005, they worked at Evergreen Engineering as a Designer/Drafter, gaining experience in creating drawings using AutoCAD and Inventor. They then joined the OSU Mars Rover Team as the Robotic Arm Lead Designer, where they led the design, manufacture, and testing of the rover's robotic arm. During their time at Oregon State University, they also served as a Graduate Research Assistant and an Undergraduate Research Assistant, participating in robotics research and contributing to OSU's Mars Rover team.

In 2013, Jesse Grimes-York joined JPL (NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory) as a Robotics Mechanical Engineer. They were the Cognizant Engineer of the Sealing & Drop-off Station, leading a team through the design, analysis, fabrication, assembly, testing, and flight qualification of hardware for the 2020 Mars Rover. They continued this role until 2019 while also working at Johnson Space Center as a Robotics Mechanical Engineer. There, they focused on designing the generation 2 Valkyrie lower body and legs, including motor and gearbox sizing, actuator layout, bearing sizing, sensor selection, and CAD design using Creo.

In 2019, Jesse Grimes-York joined CACI International Inc as a Robotics Mechanical Engineer at NASA JSC, where they continued their work on the Valkyrie project. They were responsible for senior design engineering tasks such as motor and gearbox sizing, actuator layout, bearing sizing, sensor selection, and CAD design using Creo.

Most recently, in 2021, Jesse Grimes-York joined Nimble Robotics as a Senior Mechanical Engineer. Additional details about their role at Nimble Robotics are not provided.

Jesse Grimes-York holds a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering, which was obtained from Oregon State University between the years 2011 and 2013. Prior to that, Jesse acquired a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution between 2006 and 2011. In addition to their degrees, Jesse also holds a certification as a Solidworks Certified Associate for Mechanical Design. This certification was earned in February 2023 from the SolidWorks Authorized Training Centre.
