Ryan Coppersmith has worked in the geology field since 2008. Ryan began their career at AMEC Geomatrix, where they worked as a Geologist. During their time there, they conducted field work to evaluate bedrock structures within the site vicinity for the DTE Fermi COL Application, Black and Veatch, Monroe, MI. Ryan also mapped bedrock structures and marine terrace elevations in the southwest boundary zone to determine regional uplift rates and develop a better understanding of the regional structure for the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, Pacific Gas and Electric, San Luis Obispo County, CA. Additionally, they were part of a group that characterized gravitational faults with AUV, 2D and 3D seismic data to quantify offset and secondary deformation at specific locations along faults as part of a probabilistic fault displacement hazard analysis for Offshore Facilities, BP Exploration, South Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan.
In 2013, Ryan Coppersmith became the Senior Geologist at Coppersmith Consulting Inc. In 2021, they moved to Niricson, where they are the Business Development and Strategic Partnerships. At Niricson, they have developed a unique concrete dam and spillway inspection technique using UAV-based data collection and computer vision. Ryan has also developed a rigorous data collection architecture that combines LiDAR, optical, thermal, and acoustic data sets for a holistic condition assessment of concrete assets, and is currently developing the capabilities for predictive maintenance.
Ryan Coppersmith received their B.S. Honors in Geology from Washington and Lee University in 2006, followed by an M.S. in Structural Geology from The University of Texas at Austin in 2008.
