Rose Pearson is a Remote Sensing Scientist at NIWA since April 2021, specializing in marine ecosystem monitoring and river flood modeling through remote sensing techniques. Previously, Rose held a postdoctoral fellowship in data science, focusing on creating digital elevation models and roughness maps from LiDAR data for flood models, under the Endeavour flood inundation and hazard project. Prior roles include serving as Lead Research Engineer and Senior Research Engineer at Seequent and the University of Cambridge, respectively, where strategic research and engineering education were key responsibilities. Early career experiences include algorithm design at ARANZ Geo Limited and tutoring at the University of Canterbury. Rose holds a PhD in 3D Modelling from the University of Cambridge and a BE(Hons) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Canterbury.
