Jason Ensher has extensive work experience in the field of engineering and photonics. Jason currently holds the position of Senior Director of Engineering at nLIGHT since 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Insight Photonic Solutions from 2011 to 2023, where they served as EVP and CTO. In this role, they managed senior managers and provided organization-wide leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. Jason also provided technical leadership in the development of semiconductor swept-wavelength lasers and sensors. Before that, they held various roles at Insight Photonic Solutions, including CTO and VP of Strategic Marketing, Vice President of Engineering, and Director of Engineering.

In the past, Jason worked as an Engineering Programs Manager at dBm Optics from 2010 to 2011, and as a Principal at SmartLight LLC in 2010. Jason also served as a Senior Optical Engineer at InPhase Technologies from 2006 to 2010, where they led the Optics Group and was responsible for the design and development of optical systems. Prior to that, they worked as a System Engineer at Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp, where they performed laser system testing and analysis for space-based electro-optical instruments. Jason began their career as an Optical Physicist at Precision Photonics Corporation in 2001, where they developed wavelength lockers and calibration systems for tunable telecommunication lasers. Lastly, they worked as an Optical Physicist at ILX Lightwave, where they contributed to new product development in optical component testing.

Overall, Jason Ensher has a diverse and well-rounded background in engineering and photonics, with experience in leadership, technical development, and product management.

Jason Ensher completed their education in the field of physics. Jason started their academic journey at the University at Buffalo from 1989 to 1993, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Following this, they attended the University of Colorado Boulder from 1993 to 1998, where they obtained a PhD in Physics. Later, Jason pursued a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Connecticut in the year 1999 to 2000.
