Koen Willemsen is an accomplished Senior Clinical Scientist specializing in Medical 3D Technology at UMC Utrecht since 2016, where leadership of a research team focuses on integrating medical technology, 3D modeling, and AI. As Coordinator and Co-founder of the 3D lab UMCU, Koen oversees staff and guides research projects while also serving as a certified team physician for the international rugby circuit with World Rugby. Koen has an extensive background in rugby as a player for the Dutch Rugby Union and has participated in international competitions. Educational qualifications include an Engineering Doctorate in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology and an MD-PhD from Utrecht University, awarded Cum Laude. Additional experience includes a Visiting Scholar position at the Mayo Clinic and various roles in medical internships and research across multiple institutions.
