Jonathan Perez de Alderete, PhD began their career in 2011 as a Researcher at the University of Massachusetts. In 2012, they took on an Engineering Intern role at Vizio Medical Devices. In 2013, they founded Nonspec, a company focused on the development of affordable and mass producible prosthetic limb kits for amputees globally. During this time, they raised grant and competition seed funding of over $1.5M, and directly managed and provided strategy for local and international multidisciplinary teams. In 2017, they joined the University of Massachusetts Lowell as an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. In January 2019, they were promoted to Visiting Professor, and then to Teaching Professor in September 2019. During their time at UML, they developed and deployed a college wide system for student outcome tracking to meet ABET requirements, and was responsible for developing curriculum for graduate and undergraduate courses in Biomedical Design, Thermodynamics, Mechanical Design, Controls, and Material Science.
Jonathan Perez de Alderete received their Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2013, majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Pre-medical. Jonathan then went on to pursue a Master of Science in Integrated Technology and Engineering at the University of Massachusetts in 2014. Finally, Jonathan completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts in 2017.
