Michael Noland began their work experience as a Research Assistant at Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs in May 2005. Michael then worked as a Research Assistant at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from August 2004 to June 2006. From June 2006 to April 2009, they held the position of Software Engineer at Emergent Game Technologies, and then became a Senior Software Engineer at the same company from April 2009 to February 2010.

In February 2010, Michael joined Epic Games as a Sr. Engine Programmer, where they worked on various aspects of UE3 and UE4, including performance testing and making engine optimizations. Michael held the position of Technical Lead from July 2014 to January 2017, during which they also led the performance initiative for the game Paragon. From January 2017 to April 2022, they served as a Lead Programmer and was responsible for the game framework in Unreal Engine at Epic Games. In June 2021, they took on the role of Principal Engine Programmer until their departure in April 2022.

Currently, Michael Noland is the Chief Technology Officer at Noodle Cat Games, starting in May 2022.

Michael Noland has a strong educational background in computer science and computer engineering. Michael pursued their undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri-Columbia from 2000 to 2004, where they obtained both a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCoE). Following their undergraduate studies, Michael went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2004 to 2006, where they earned a Master of Science (MS) degree in Computer Science. Prior to their undergraduate studies, Michael attended the Coleraine Academical Institution, although specific details about the duration and degree obtained are unavailable.
