Outi Mäkinen

Outi Mäkinen has a long and varied work experience, beginning in 2007 as a Cheesemaker at Schaukäserei Kloster Engelberg. In 2008, they worked as an Intern in Development and Quality Control at Palmia, City of Helsinki. Outi then worked as a Researcher at the University of Helsinki in 2010, followed by a PhD student position at University College Cork, Ireland (UCC) in 2011. In 2014, they were a Post Doc at the University of Copenhagen and a Senior Scientist at VTT in 2015. From 2016 to 2019, they were a Development Manager and Food Scientist at Gold&Green Foods Ltd, and since 2019, they have been a Research Scientist at Valio. Currently, Outi Mäkinen is the CTO at Nordic Umami Company.

Outi Mäkinen began their educational journey in 1992 when they attended Deutsche Schule Helsinki and earned a Reifeprüfung. From 2004 to 2010, they attended the University of Helsinki and earned a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Food Technology, Cereal Technology, and Food Business. In 2009, they completed a research project at Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen in Food Chemistry. Finally, from 2011 to 2014, they attended University College Cork and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Food Science and Technology.
