Jessica Benton is an Assistant Professor of Exceptional Child Education at Southeast Missouri State University since August 2021. In addition, Jessica serves as a Grassroots Organizer for the North Carolina Association of Educators, actively supporting teachers in Wake County School Board races through phone banking and canvassing. With extensive teaching experience, Jessica has been a teacher at Wake County Public School System since November 2004, initially focusing on Intellectual Disabilities-Moderate (level II) from 2005 to 2010, and transitioning to Cross Categorical Resource from 2010 to the present. Jessica holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education with a focus on Cultural Studies and Literacies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Special Education from North Carolina State University, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English Language and Literature from the University of North Florida.
