Michele Frederick is the Associate Curator of European Art & Provenance Research at North Carolina Museum of Art. Michele has previously worked as the Samuel H. Kress Predoctoral Fellow at the National Gallery of Art and as the Samuel H. Kress Interpretive Fellow, European Painting, at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Frederick has a deep passion for art history, and their research focuses on 16th- and 17th-century Netherlandish and Italian painting, with an emphasis on issues of provenance and authenticity. Michele has published articles on a variety of topics, including an examination of the function of Roman antiquities in 16th-century Netherlandish painting and a re-evaluation of an early work by Rubens.
Frederick received their BA in Art Theirtory from Williams College and their PhD in Art Theirtory from Bryn Mawr College.
Michele Frederick received their PhD in Art Theirtory from the University of Delaware, with a focus in the curatorial track. Michele also holds an MA from Case Western Reserve University in Art Theirtory and Museum Studies, as well as a BA from Florida State University in Art Theirtory and Museum Studies.
Michele Frederick reports to Linda Dougherty, Chief Curator & Curator of Contemporary Art. They work with Ángel González López - Research Curator of Ancient American Art, Amanda M. Maples - Curator of African Art, and Maya Brooks - Mellon Foundation Assistant Curator.
